Documentary Photography

Here is where my work becomes more than images. Documentary photography is how I learn about people and culture, and how I share the beauty I see in everyday life. It is the part of my art that feels the most genuine, shaped by curiosity, empathy, and a desire to show the world as it truly is.

This is also the place where I feel most connected. Documentary work allows me to slow down and notice what often goes unnoticed, the gestures, the rhythms, the stories that live in quiet moments. It is honest, emotional, and free, and it represents the truest expression of my creativity.

Documentary photography elevates any story

Documentary photography is not limited to travel or culture. This way of seeing can shape lifestyle sessions, events, weddings, and even business storytelling. It brings authenticity, emotion, and a natural flow to every project. Families get images that feel real and lived in. Couples get moments that show their connection without posing. Businesses gain honest visuals that reveal their values and the people behind the work. No matter the setting, documentary photography brings depth, sincerity, and a sense of human truth that elevates any story.

At home sessions

Documentary family sessions are one of the most meaningful ways to preserve your story. They capture the real moments—baking cookies at night, gardening with grandma, decorating the tree together—natural, relaxed, and honest. I guide you with simple ideas, help with outfits and décor through a mood board, and choose the best time of day for light and storytelling.

wedding

This is the way I love photographing weddings. Small elopements and backyard celebrations where everything is real and close and full of emotion. I work only with natural light and I focus on the story as it unfolds. From the getting ready moments to the look on someone’s face when the bride walked up the aisle, I am there paying attention to the people, the reactions, who laughed, who cried, and all the feelings that rise throughout the day.

$1,500 for three hours of coverage. Additional hours are $350 per hour.

Hey, my name is Juliana Martinez

I came from a psychology background, but art always found its way back to me. It is just who I am. I have always had an eye for the beauty of the ordinary, the soft light on a wall, the small objects people keep, the quiet moments that say more than words.

I want my photography to carry more of the world in it, more culture, more lived experiences, more of the small details that say who we are and how we live. I am building a portfolio that reflects that shift, mixing architecture with storytelling and the warmth of everyday life.

My goal is simple. I want people to feel something when they look at my images. Something familiar. Something human. Something that feels like home, even when the place is new.

FAQ

What is documentary photography

Documentary photography focuses on real moments instead of posed ones. It captures the energy, emotion, and natural flow of a day. The result feels honest and meaningful because nothing is forced or staged.

Do you still take posed photos if needed

Yes. While the heart of my work is candid storytelling, I can always take a few simple posed photos if you would like them. I keep it natural and relaxed.

How do I prepare for my session

After booking, we have a consultation where I learn about you and your story. I create a mood board to guide outfits, decor, and the overall feel of the session. I also help you choose the best time of day for lighting and atmosphere.

Can you help with ideas and planning

Absolutely. Whether it is a family session, an event, or a business story, I help with concepts, flow, and small details so the experience feels natural and enjoyable.

FAQ

How many photos will I receive

The amount varies depending on the length of the session, but you always receive a full gallery with the best images from our time together. I never hold back photos that belong to your story. (Never less than 100 haha)

How long does it take to receive the gallery

Most galleries are delivered within two to three weeks. Weddings may take a little longer because of the volume of images and storytelling involved.

Do you travel outside New Jersey

Yes. I travel within the United States and internationally for documentary projects, hotels, and special stories. Travel fees vary by location and are discussed during booking.

What if the weather is bad on the day of an outdoor shoot?

If the weather affects the experience or the light in a way that does not match the vision, we simply reschedule. I am flexible and want the session to feel right.
